ASK DANNY!
Ask An English Question
to a Real American Guy!

ASK DANNY!Danny is an American and he's the editor of Xianzai's Learn English email newsletters! Each week you can ask him an English-language grammar, sentence, or cultural question. Each week he will pick one question from a reader and answer it here!

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION COMES FROM Catherine.

Question: I often meet business people from around world. Sometimes I do not understand their English. Australia people and India people are most difficult. What can I do to improve?

DANNY SAYS: Hello Catherine! Many people in the world speak English and we all have our own accents. If you are having trouble understanding their English, remember that they also may have problems understanding your accent! It is best to always speak slowly and concisely. Do not use much slang, because often English-speakers from different parts of the world don't understand the same slang. If you are having problems understanding someone, it's fine to say, "Sorry, could you repeat that again a little slowly."

Woohoo! English-speakers are all over the world We all have our own accents and to get a better understanding, it's good to watch DVDs from around the world to become familiar with accents!

Walking on the Moon - The Police:

Verse:
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon

We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon

Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon

Chorus:
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price
I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play
